Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Grace and peace to you from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!’
– Luke 19:38
As Jesus was entering the city, the crowds shouted praise for Jesus. They were celebrating their new king. This Palm Sunday reading stands in opposition to our first Gospel reading for Lent where Jesus is tempted by Satan. All Jesus had to do was worship Satan and he would have been granted the whole world. He could have been king. The journey from the offer from Satan to the cross shows what kind of king Jesus truly is and his example of love for the world, the price he was willing to pay.
The season of Lent is the time the church takes to focus on this love and what it means for our lives. We set aside the richness of the world to focus on strengthening our relationship with God through worship, prayer, and acts of charity.
Attached to this letter is a calendar of events for Lent and Holy Week. It is my hope that you are able to join us for these services that they may remind you of your dependence on God and the depth of his love for you. Please note, this year all our midweek services are being held at the central location of Quickel Lutheran Church.
God bless your Lenten journey as we walk with Jesus to the cross.
In Christ,
Pastor Jason Northridge
