On May 3, 1915 the congregation decided to build a church. Ground was broken on August 16, 1915. On November 7, the corner stone was laid. The plot of ground and church cost was under $7,000. The church was dedicated on September 16, 1916.
November 17, 1914 the congregation decided to purchase a lot at the corner of Third and Center streets in Mt. Wolf.
In 1914 Mt. Wolf was 64 years old. The land above Third Street was used primarily for farming. Controversy raged as to whether the small town could support two churches. The Church of the United Brethren in Christ was located near its present location of Main and Center Street.
In the Spring of 1913, a young seminarian, Paul Y. Livingston, came into our community going door-to-door to enliven the Lutheran and unchurched families. Because of his efforts, on July 26, 1914, St. John Evangelical Church was organized with 20 Charter Members. They met in the KGE Hall.
