February 28, 1943 - Dedicatory recital of organ. An organ was rebuilt by Mr. Fred Furst. Several parts were rebuilt from our existing organ and other organs. Also, new parts were included by Mr. Furst of York. It was installed in February 1943. The recital was played by Roger B. Schwartz, brother of Pastor William Schwartz. Mrs. Philip Hoke of Spring Grove, the pastor’s sister-in-law, became the church’s first organist.
February 5, 1961: St. John embarked on an extensive remodeling of the existing church. The cornerstone was laid September 17, 1961, just seven months later. This was just seven years after adding the back addition.
February 9, 1967: Reverend Bernard F. Engelhardt was called to St. John. The Sunday School was going through a reorganization and curriculum change and showed a decline in Sunday School involvement. This was seen within many congregations. February 1915 St. John’s balance in the treasury was $1.76 & monthly expenses were $25.47. The congregation decided to purchase a corner lot on Third & Center Streets in Mt. Wolf from A.H. Diehl for the price of $210. The size of the lot was 60 ft x 146 ft.
This significant anniversary provides you an opportunity to reflect on your long history and to give thanks to God for the many faithful believers, both lay leaders and clergy, whom God used to build up this congregation, who fed and strengthened by God’s Word and Holy Sacraments, witnessed and served God and God’s people and who laid the foundation on which this congregation was built and was sustained through these many years. – Letter from Bishop James Dunlop, January 16, 2014
